Natural Remedies for Psoriasis

When patients seek to find cures for their Psoriasis, there are those who will seek medication to help alleviate the symptoms. While there are a great many treatments on the market these days, not all of them suit everyone. There are those for whom the medications themselves cause problems such as allergies. For those people, they may instead seek to find more natural remedies for Psoriasis. These coupled with a greater care of the skin, can be just as effective as medication.

Natural Remedies for Psoriasis

A good way of preventing Psoriasis flare-ups in the first place, is to moisturize regularly. However, the moisturizers themselves can sometimes contain chemicals that will irritate the delicate skin. A good alternative to mass produced moisturizers is using cooking oil, lard, or petroleum jelly. They might not sound very appealing, but their moisturizing properties are just as good as the shop bought alternatives.

  • Vinegar

It has long been known that apple cider vinegar is very good at helping to soothe burns and skin inflammation. In order to use it, you need to make a solution of one cup of apple cider vinegar to one gallon of water. This solution is effective against itching and can either be used to dip affected areas into the solution, or to dab it onto the problem areas.

  • Epsom Salts

By adding a cupful of this to your bath, you can reduce swelling and aid the healing of your Psoriasis.

  • Capsaicin

Capsaicin is a substance that gives that heat kick to Cayenne Pepper. Creams containing Capsaicin can be found and although this may irritate the skin initially, it has been found to block the nerves communication system. You should only use a cream that has a .025 to .075 percent Capsaicin however, as higher than this may burn the skin.

  • Fish Oil

Fish oils have been known to have a beneficial effect on the body for many years. Fish oil supplements however or Omega 3, has not had that much success for Psoriasis. Some people have found though, that pouring fish oil onto the skin, does have a positive effect.  It doesn’t have to be on the skin for a long period and can be washed off.

  • Plastic Wrap

Plastic Wrap is known in the medical world as being a good treatment for Psoriasis. You can use special OTC patches or you can simply use your kitchen wrap. Placed over skin that has been moisturized, helps with lesions and general healing. Non-latex gloves can also be used on hands after moisturizer is applied. The wrap should not be kept on for too long, as if the skin becomes white and soggy, this can encourage infection.

There are many other home remedies and natural products that can help either alleviate the symptoms of Psoriasis, or keep the skin Psoriasis free. Early diagnosis and treatment of Psoriasis is by far the best way to keep it under control, but there are many natural products that can help keep it that way.
